Installation art has to be the greatest visual fable of "The Emperors new clothes"
If you don't remember the story by Hans Christian Andersen '' - in a nut shell, nobody had the guts to tell the Emperor that the 'finest cloth that only smart people can see' was indeed no clothes at all. The Emperors new clothes
The same can be said for today's art world in many ways. The worst offender that's leading a similar scam as the tailor that 'made' the Emperors new clothes is 'installation art'.
And Ai WeiWei - an art dissident fro China is the most prolific offender.
Ironically, as Andy Warhol ripped off brands like Coca-Cola and Campbells soup, Ai WeiWei is ripping off Andy.
Even to the point where he has a similar Coca-Cola version on a Chinese clay pot .
Nobody has the guts to call it out as crap because they don't want to look like a fool by being 'un-cultured' or 'not smart'.. But where is the skill in most of the rubbish that you often see.
Sure, Andy Warhol did it well. But just because Andy got away with it, every man and his dog now thinks that its a respectable form of art. And are turning their hand to it and calling themselves artists.
It was done well once (by Andy), but now people need to let it go - I use the adjective 'people' because they don't deserve to be called artists.

This image illustrates my point exactly. The administrators at the Victorian Museum of Art 'see the Emperors new clothes is all its glory.
Ai WeiWei has even ripped off Andy's famous quote: "Does Andy imitate art? Or does art imitate Andy?"
WeiWei's Quote has been boiled down to "Art is life. Life is art.
The only Art in my mind is that of beauty - and any other reaction, I'm not interested in it.
Ask yourself, Is and old man standing naked in a public place really art? Do you get joy from looking at that?
I

Much for the reason I quit tagging walls and turned to art, I also believe that installation art is not art.
